...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Central Caldwell County in western North Carolina...
* WHEN...Until 830 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams
and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks,
greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and
parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A
few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A
small culvert washout or two is possible.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 522 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated several period of heavy
rain have occurred between Lenoir and Patterson over the past 2-3
hours. A stripe of 2-3 inches of rainfall has already occurred.
Another brief round of heavy rain, capable of producing another
0.5-1" of rainfall over the next 30 minutes, is currently moving
through this area. Given saturated soils, areas of excessive
runoff are expected across the Advisory area. Swollen small
streams may briefly reach bankfull over the next 60 minutes in
response to this runoff. Nuisance flooding of adjacent low-lying
areas and high flows over low-water crossings are briefly
expected. Areas of greatest concern include in the Blair Fork
watershed near US 321 and along Valway Rd (NC 90), along Mill
Pond Branch near Collettsville Rd (NC 90), and Warrior Creek near
Warrior Rd and Coy Miller Rd.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

following county, Caldwell.
* WHEN...Until 830 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Dangerous flows over low-water crossings. Some low-water
crossings may become impassable.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 731 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated that heavy rain has
exited the area, leaving only light shower activity. However,
minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the
advisory area due to between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain that
fell earlier this evening over a short period of time. Small
creek and poor drainage areas may be particularly affected.
