...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1215 AM EDT WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Southwestern Cabarrus County in the piedmont of North
  Carolina...

* WHEN...Until 1215 AM EDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams
  and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks,
  greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and
  parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible.  A
  few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible.  A
  small culvert washout or two is possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 609 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
    torrential rain due to a stationary thunderstorm south of Mount
    Pleasant and east of Harrisburg near Midland. Between 1 and 2
    inches of rain have fallen so far, but an additional inch or more
    of rainfall is possible before the causative thunderstorm weakens
    or drifts away from the area. Given wet antecedent conditions
    across southern Cabarrus County from multiple rounds of
    thunderstorms over the past week, excessive runoff is likely to
    cause rapid small stream rises and areas of adjacent lowland
    flooding.  Poorly draining intersections and low spots along
    roadways are likely to flood.  Exercise caution when encountering
    ponding and avoid flooded roadways.  Areas of greatest concern
    include along Reedy Creek near Lower Rocky River Rd, Anderson
    Creek near Bethel Church Rd, Horton Branch near Robert Bost Rd,
    and Caldwell Creek near Rebel Dr.

    Additional showers are developing over Harrisburg.  While the
    rainfall over Harrisburg has not been significant enough yet
    to cause excessive runoff, the slow-moving nature of this
    line of storms may result in excessive runoff within the next
    60 minutes.  Therefore, the Flood Advisory will extend
    upstream within the Rocky River watershed across the southern
    third of Cabarrus County.

* WHERE...Southwestern Cabarrus County in the piedmont of North
  Carolina...

* WHEN...Until 1215 AM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams
  and other oor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways,
  boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots.
  Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible.  A few
  flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible.  A small
  culvert washout or two is possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 831 PM EDT, Heavy rainfall has ended across Cabarrus County.
    However, storm-total rainfall of 2-4" occurred within a 2- to
    3-hour period over the southeastern portion of the county from
    Georgeville to Midland, resulting in flooding of small streams
    impacting adjacent low-lying areas including farmland, woodlands,
    and isolated residential yards and roadways.  Further upstream
    within the Rocky River watershed near Harrisburg, storm-total
    rainfall of 0.75-1.5" occurred, which was not enough to cause
    flooding to occur, outside of an isolated poor-drainage area or
    two. However, the Flood Advisory will remain in effect through
    930pm for the Rocky River watershed from Harrisburg to Midland
    then will be reduced in size to cover the area from Georgeville
    to Midland, to account for residual low-land flooding concerns
    from earlier flash flooding.

    Please avoid flooded roadways and obey all barricades, even if
    flood waters have receded, in order to allow time for crews to
    assess road/bridge stability following damaging stream flows.

    Additional heavy rainfall from strong thunderstorms is possible
    later tonight.  Given saturated soils and swollen streams, any
    additional heavy rainfall may cause new areas of flooding to
    develop. Please stay weather aware and have multiple ways to
    receive warnings, including via television, cellular phone, and
    NOAA Weather Radio.

    include...Midland.

  - At 928 PM EDT, Heavy rainfall has ended across Cabarrus County.
    However, storm-total rainfall of 2.5-4.5" occurred within a 2- to
    3-hour period over the southeastern portion of the county from
    Georgeville to Midland, resulting in Minor flash flooding of
    small streams impacting adjacent low-lying areas including
    farmland, woodlands, and isolated residential yards and roadways.
    Earlier this evening, Cabarrus County Emergency Management
    reported the flash flooding of a few roadways including:

    * Clydesdale Dr near Saddlebrook Dr and Mustang Dr

    * NC 27/24 near Riceland Way

    * Bethel Church Rd near Horton Branch and Robert Bost Rd

    * Reed Mine Rd near Little Meadow Creek and Hartsell Rd

    While the more significant flash flooding has ended, elevated
    streamflows continue and areas of adjacent lowland nuisance
    flooding are ongoing.  Therefore, a Flood Advisory will remain in
    effect through approximately 10:30-11:00p to allow streams and
    remnant flooded areas to recede.

    Please continue obey all barricades, even if flood waters have
    receded, in order to allow time for crews to assess road/bridge
    stability following damaging stream flows.

    Additional heavy rainfall from strong thunderstorms is possible
    later tonight.  Given saturated soils and swollen streams, any
    additional heavy rainfall may cause new areas of flooding to
    develop. Please stay weather aware and have multiple ways to
    receive warnings, including via television, cellular phone, and
    NOAA Weather Radio.
