...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 215 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...A portion of southeast Kentucky, including the following
county, Harlan.
* WHEN...Until 215 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1221 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the advisory area. Up to 1 inch of rain has
fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected
over the area between 12:30 and 1:00 PM. This additional rain
will result in minor flooding of small streams and creeks,
roads, and roadside culverts.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Nolansburg, Shields, Colts, Short Town, Highsplint, Darkmont,
Bailey Creek, Pine Mountain, Louellen, Dizney, Putney, Black
Bottom, Lejunior, Closplint, Clover-Darby, Big Laurel and
Holmes Mill.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
