The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
West Central Elbert County in east central Colorado...
East Central Douglas County in northeastern Colorado...
* Until 500 PM MDT.
* At 207 PM MDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
0.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts
up to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is
ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, gulches,
roads, and poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Elizabeth, Franktown, Ponderosa Park and Castlewood Canyon.
This includes the following streams and drainages...
Gold Creek, Running Creek, Willow Creek, Cherry Creek, Coal Creek,
Bayou Gulch, East Plum Creek, Lake Gulch and East Cherry Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Excessive runoff from this storm will cause flash flooding of small
creeks and streams, highways and underpasses. Additionally, country
roads, farmlands along the banks of creeks, and other low lying areas
are subject to flooding.

AFTERNOON FOR WEST CENTRAL ELBERT AND EAST CENTRAL DOUGLAS
COUNTIES...
At 324 PM MDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms had ended across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3
inches of rain have fallen. Flooding impacts will continue, but no
additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding is ongoing or
expected to begin shortly.
