The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
The Upper Escalante River in Central Garfield County in southern
Utah...
* Until 830 PM MDT.
* At 329 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain in the Upper Escalante River as well as North Creek,
Birch Creek, Wide Hollow, and Death Hollow. Between 1 and 1.5
inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms producing life-
threatening flash flooding in the Upper Escalante River.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
normally dry washes, and backcountry roads.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
The Upper Escalante River, North Creek, Birch Creek, Wide Hollow,
and Death Hollow with flows anticipated to move downstream through
the Upper Escalante River Canyon.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
