The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  West Central Mellette County in south central South Dakota...
  North Central Bennett County in southwestern South Dakota...
  Central Jackson County in southwestern South Dakota...

* Until 1045 PM MDT /1145 PM CDT/.

* At 938 PM MDT /1038 PM CDT/, a severe thunderstorm was located 6
  miles east of Cedar Pass, or 17 miles west of Kadoka, moving
  southeast at 30 mph.

  THIS IS A DESTRUCTIVE STORM FOR KADOKA, WANBLEE.

  HAZARD...90 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.

  SOURCE...Automated observations.

  IMPACT...You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris may
           be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes
           will be heavily damaged or destroyed. Homes and businesses
           will have substantial roof and window damage. Expect
           extensive tree damage and power outages.

* Locations impacted include...
  Kadoka, Wanblee, Long Valley, Interior, George Town, Hisle, Cactus
  Flat, Cedar Pass, Intersection of Highway 73 and White River, Eagle
  Nest Butte and northeastern Pine Ridge Reservation.

This includes Interstate 90 in South Dakota between Mile Markers 132
and 152.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Seek shelter now inside an interior room on the lowest floor of a
well-built structure. This storm has produced widespread destructive
winds and is capable of producing large hail.

This is a dangerous situation with winds expected to produce damage
similar to a tornado. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of
a well-built structure. Mobile homes and high profile vehicles are at
an enhanced risk for damage.

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1045 PM MDT
/1145 PM CDT/ FOR WEST CENTRAL MELLETTE, NORTH CENTRAL BENNETT AND
SOUTHERN JACKSON COUNTIES...

At 1018 PM MDT /1118 PM CDT/, a severe thunderstorm was located near
Long Valley, or 22 miles south of Kadoka, moving southeast at 35 mph.

HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable
         tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes,
         roofs, and outbuildings.

This severe thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of West
Central Mellette, North Central Bennett and Southern Jackson
Counties.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Anyone outdoors should move to shelter inside a well-built structure
and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing
widespread damaging winds and large hail.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning is one of natures leading killers. Remember, if you can
hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

for the latest severe weather information.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 500 AM MDT /600
AM CDT/ Wednesday for portions of south central and southwest South
Dakota.
